António José Seguro says he belongs to the "modern and moderate" Left.

In statements to journalists on the sidelines of a conference on economics and housing in Guimarães, in the Braga district, António José Seguro expressed "great confidence" that on January 18, the date of the presidential elections, he will not only advance to the second round, but will be the candidate with the most votes.
"Everyone knows my origins; I come from the space of democratic socialism, of social democracy. I have a life of fighting for values; people know where my values lie. I belong to a modern and moderate left, a left that preserves freedom, equal opportunities, social justice, and that wants the country to progress. I am a defender of the Constitution of the Republic, I am a pro-European, and therefore, these are my values, this is my genetic code," he stated.
However, he stressed that more important than knowing where you come from is knowing where you want to go.
"I want to be the President of all Portuguese people; I'm not going to the Presidency of the Republic to play partisan politics. I want to represent everyone because I have an urgent need: to help contribute to a better life for the Portuguese people," stressed the former Secretary-General of the Socialist Party.
Regarding the results of the January 18 elections, António José Seguro expressed himself as calm and confident.
"I am a very calm person and I am very confident that on January 18th I will not only advance to the second round, but I will be the candidate with the most votes to become President of the Republic," he pointed out.
Regarding the problems in the Health sector, Seguro declined to say whether he believes the minister in charge, Ana Paula Martins, should resign, stressing that his focus is on finding solutions.
"My concern is that political actors find solutions to solve a serious problem we have, which is the difficulty that the Portuguese people have in accessing healthcare [...]. I leave the rest to the political parties," he said.
